How Your Body Can Get The Most Out of Turmeric

Eating healthy is one thing, but ensuring your body is able to absorb the nutrients you’re giving it is a whole other story!

If you don’t know all the incredible medicinal effects that turmeric (active ingredient is curcumin) can have on your health, I highly recommend you find out here! You might be shocked at the power turmeric has, but once you’ve soaked all the fascinating information up, it’s time to talk absorption… pun intended!

Turmeric is fat-soluble which means it dissolves or breaks down in fat. If turmeric is not broken down than it will travel through your system and be released, which won’t allow your body to reap any of its benefits!

So, what can you do about this?

You need to have consumed some foods that contain healthy fats for turmeric and curcumin absorption. Once turmeric is absorbed properly into fats it can then make it’s journey through your digestive tract and into your blood.

Eating turmeric will be excellent for you health, but can your body absorb all that it has to offer? Find out how you can use turmeric to its fullest ability!

Here are a couple helpful tips for eating turmeric!

• Drink raw turmeric almond milk: turmeric mixed with the natural fats in almonds will aid in absorption
• Spice up your avocado: Avocados have healthy fats that will help your body absorb the turmeric, and it’s a great flavor!
• Put it in your smoothie with coconut oil: Coconut oil is a great kitchen staple and it is also full of healthy fats that aid in turmeric absorption.
• Use it as a cooking spice: If you’re cooking a steak, or sautéing vegetables in oil, add turmeric for flavor.
• Turmeric and black pepper: Together these herbs work as an even more powerful health team. Black pepper enhances turmeric’s bioavailability by 1000 times its regular strength. (Bioavailability is a substances rate of absorption).

One of my favorite recipes with turmeric and healthy fats can be used as a dip or spread! Here’s a list of what you need;

• 2 cups plain raw yogurt (try to get yogurt from free range or pasture fed cows)
• 2 tablespoons organic freshly squeezed orange juice
• 1 tablespoon raw organic honey
• ½ tablespoon coconut oil
• ½ tablespoon turmeric
• ½ tablespoon cinnamon

When I make this recipe I either use it as a dip for fresh organic fruits like apple, pineapple or peaches or as a spread on toast…it’s particularly delicious on raisin toast! I’ve also seen variations of this recipe used as salad dressings and in soup! The healthy fats in the yogurt and coconut oil will help absorb the turmeric, while the orange juice and honey will boost vitamin C content!

This recipe is great for entertaining and it has the versatility of a refreshing summer dip or a cozy winter spread. Enjoy!
