If You Want Stronger Hair, Nails and Skin: Start Consuming These Foods

Did you know that the health of your hair, nails and skin is a big indication of how healthy your body is on the inside?

Your body is bombarded with pesticides, pollutants, preservatives, sugars and other chemicals all day long, through air, cleaning products, toiletries and food! When these toxins penetrate your body they break apart and weaken the collagen, elastin, and kerotin that strengthen hair, nails and skin.

A well balanced, plant based diet will contribute toward a healthy body, inside and out. There are some  strengthening superfoods however that exceed the average nail, hair and skin boost that most healthy foods provide.

I’ve made a list below so that you can work on strengthening your body inside and out!

1. Green vegetables

The darker the green, the more packed it is with vitamins and minerals! Most green vegetables contain vitamins A, C, E, K, B and iron; all of which contribute toward hardy nails, smooth, strong hair, and clear, soft skin.

My favorite greens are:

– Broccoli
– Kale
– Watercress
– Spinach
– Collards

Green vegetables also have a high water content so they keep you feeling hydrated which is excellent for your skin and hair. The vegetables I mentioned above are known to be extremely high in calcium, potassium and magnesium which again, contribute significantly to the strength of your hair, nails and skin.

2. Root vegetables

Vegetables that contain high levels of vitamin A will provide the necessary strength for healthy hair, nails and skin. Squash, carrots, sweet potato and pumpkin are all excellent sources of vitamin A.

These root vegetables are full of vitamin C, which has the ability to decrease stress levels. Stress has been proven to lower the level of elastin, kerotin, and collagen in your body, thus weakening your hair, nails, and skin.

3. Almonds

As I said before, collagen is one of the most important elements in achieving and maintaining healthy hair, skin and nails. Vitamin E encourages the production of collagen in your body and almonds are full of vitamin E.

Almonds are also a great source of calcium, which not only contributes to bone strength but also to nail, hair, skin and teeth health.

When you eat almonds, make sure you’re not snacking on heavily salted trail mixes! Go for the untouched, raw, organic almonds!

4. Pumpkin seeds

These delicious seeds are an excellent source of:

– Iron
– Biotin
– Potassium
– Magnesium
– Protein
– Omega 3 fatty acids

I absolutely love pumpkin seeds! I like to throw them in the oven with a tiny bit of coconut oil drizzled on top with a pinch of natural sea salt! They make for a great work snack and better yet, they’ll make your hair, nails and skin healthy!

Their natural alkalizing effect aids in building, not breaking down your body’s natural processes. Pumpkin seeds also help to build elastic tissues in the body, which makes for extremely hardy and healthy skin, hair and nails.
