5 Gluten-Free Wrap Ideas That Won’t Fall Apart in Your Hands

Paleo Wraps

Paleo WrapsNew healthy living lifestyles and techniques are popping up all over the world in attempt to live a longer and happier life. They’re pretty much all the rage right now. I bet you can name five on your hand without really even thinking about it. The first ones I think of are: vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free, vegetarian, and paleo.

Paleo is a relatively new lifestyle. It’s a simple diet that bases itself on types of food most likely to have been eaten by early humans, like our ancestors, and even cavemen. The diet consists mainly of meat, fish, vegetables, and fruit. Oddly enough, it excludes dairy and grain products as well as processed food.

You might think these regulations are difficult to follow, or would prevent you from eating some of your favorite things, but that is the farthest thing from the truth. In fact, many people find joy in cooking paleo meals and getting back to the basics of food.

One recipe you might want to look into if you’re thinking about going “paleo” is tortilla wraps. Why? Because you can use tortillas in any meal for everything from a crepe to a burrito.

Even if you don’t want to dip into this lifestyle head first, paleo wraps are a great way to replace carb filled flour or corn tortillas that you may be eating.

What’s in them?

Paleo wraps are raw, organic, vegan, starch-free, gluten-free, grain-free, yeast-free, soy free, GMO free, salt free, low carb and…delicious. Paleo wrap recipes are primarily comprised of three simple ingredients: coconut meat, coconut water, and unrefined virgin coconut oil.

Make them yourself:

Ingredients:

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp melted coconut oil. (Organic unrefined virgin coconut oil)
  • 1 tbsp water
  • ¼ cup arrowroot powder, or tapioca flour.
  • 1 tsp coconut flour

Instructions:

  1. Crack the eggs into a bowl and stir in the melted coconut oil and water.
  2. Add the dry ingredients; arrowroot, coconut flour. Beat well until combined.
  3. Pour about 1/3 of the batter in a small skillet over medium heat. Tilt the pan to smooth the batter out and coat the bottom easily.
  4. The tortilla should start to pull away from the edges as it cooks.
  5. Cook for one minute on each side.

If you were thinking that this recipe can’t get any better, check out these four benefits;

  • 70 Calories
  • 4 Net Carbs (fiber minus carbs)
  • Minimal to no impact on blood sugar
  • High Level of MCT’s (From Organic Unrefined Virgin Coconut Oil)

If this recipe doesn’t tickle your fancy you can also try:

  1. Lettuce wraps: as a substitute for four wraps, simply peel a leaf off of your lettuce head and use it in place of a wrap.
  2. Cabbage Wraps: Similar to lettuce wraps cabbage works well to wrap around whatever you are making. It adds a light but crisp crunch and because it is comprised of mostly water is also adds very minimal calories.
  3. Collard Greens: To use collard greens, you need to select a leaf of roughly the same size that you desire. Clip off the stead and use it to wrap and secure your meal.
  4. Flax meal:  Flax meal can substitute equally for flour in tortilla recipes and will give you a heartier result than the recipe above.
  5. Coconut meat:  Combine 2 cups of raw coconut meat, 1 tbs of coconut water and 1/2 tsp sea salt in a food processor until it becomes mush. Spread the batter on a dehydrator at 105 degrees. Leave for 10-14 hours. Then enjoy your delicious and light wrap. The consistency will be similar to a crepe.

Try it out.
