Are you on a blood thinner? Ever wonder what active ingredients are in those little white pills?
Warfarin is the generic term for a common anticoagulant prescribed by medical practitioners to those at risk of thrombosis or blood clotting. What many don’t know about this abundant medication could put them at serious health risk.
Did you know warfarin was initially introduced in 1948 as a pesticide against rats and mice? Even more shocking is that it is still used for killing rodents to this day. That is not something I want to be putting in my body and yet it is the most widely prescribed oral anticoagulant drug in North America.
Alternative medicine is never given the benefit of the doubt and despite thousands of years of traditional practice, natural therapy is criticized to no end. Popular pharmaceutical companies have sway with some of the most powerful news media corporations and will spread whatever information they need to keep the sales of drugs up and the system of a sick society running.
Recent warnings have claimed that vitamin E therapy can cause death but the truth of the matter is much more shocking. The study which has perpetuated this view was tracked using synthetic vitamin E and not natural source vitamin E.
I can’t help but wonder that the difference between synthetic and natural could be the problem and not the vitamin E part.
Both natural and synthetic vitamin E have no problem entering our system, but it is the way our body processes these vastly different elements that changes its effectiveness and outcome. Once absorbed, a protein in the liver is only able to process natural vitamin E and any synthetic vitamin E is quickly flushed from the system.
Supplementing vitamin E naturally can be as simple as adding foods like spinach, almonds and avocados to your daily diet. Although vitamin E therapy is a relatively new approach, the fundamentals have been around forever.
One study has proved the benefits of vitamin E on cardiovascular and blood health, showing a nearly 50% reduction in thrombosis for women with a history of blood clots when supplemented every other day over a 10 year trial.
And what are the statistics on the so called reliable Warfarin pills?
Well recently the good folks at the FDA named Coumadin (a branded warfarin) one of their black box drugs. Surprisingly enough, the FDA considers it a drug which carries significant risk of serious or life threatening side effects.
They even went as far as to push the brands manufacturers to strengthen its label by adding the black box warning on each bottle including the risk of major or fatal bleeding.
Consider this an introduction into the dangers of warfarin. If you are one of the many Americans put on a diet of these potentially deadly pills, maybe think twice about your medical options and educate yourself on the serious statistics which make it very clear which therapy is the dangerous one.
