Warm months means you sweat. Make sure you’re sweating over the right problems. Sweat the heat, not the oily skin it brings. And dry months are just as bad for sucking moisture out of your skin. Is there any cleanse that restores and revives layers of clogged or dry skin?
Our skin doesn’t have a mind of its own, but sometimes that feels like that’s the case. The skin is a unique organ, though. Multiple layers, one facing the environment, other deeper layers are more protected, but still need help.
To really help your skin you’ve got to be consistent. It can take 4-6 weeks for deeper problems to surface, and if you’re treating these problems with an oral supplement it can take time before it acts against the problem it’s supposed to act against.
You’ll stop taking the supplement, and the problem will come to the skin. For healing skin conditions you need to implement a consistent and specific skin care treatment for 3-6 months.
This Isn’t Your Normal Detox
This is a 3-step, long-lasting detox. Again, consistency is key – so when you’ve starting cleaning and see results, don’t stop.
Step 1: Detox and Clear
The key here is to stop eating congesting and heating foods. Acne is caused when oil glands are overstimulated and can become infected. Your skin only uses the oils present in your diet, so it’s important to eat light. Plant-based oils are best as they flow freely through glands and decongest them.
Stay Away From These Foods
Animal fats (especially red meats and pork)
Dairy products (cheese, yogurt, butter)
Chocolate
Refined sugars
White flours
When adrenal glands are overstimulated a stress response is created. This causes excess oil production and warms up your temperature, irritating already sensitive skin. Redness, spots, and blemishes suggest a “hot” condition according to traditional Chinese medicine.
Stimulating Foods (Avoid These):
Chili, curry, spicy dishes
Alcohol
Caffeine
Nicotine
Oranges and strawberries
You only need to avoid these foods for as long as it takes your cells to turn over. Be patient and avoid these foods 95% of the time and your skin will become clearer.
Step 2: Rebuild
Rebuilding your skin cells requires healing foods. Now that you’ve omitted the foods creating the problem, you have to add foods that will encourage regrowth and healing.
Skin-Health Foods
Fresh baby greens, a combination of veggies, a healthy protein and a skin-healing oil – sounds like a salad to me. You’ve got to incorporate this salad into your daily diet for the enzymes in your gut to digest more easily, and to increase your nutrient intake.
Cold-pressed oils make up the dressing. Sunflower oil is lighter for the skin and encourages a smoother flow. Essential fatty acids will moisturize your skin from the bottom layer out. Almonds, avocado, walnuts, and sesame seeds are all great sources of fatty acids, but for your salad dressing stick to sunflower or avocado oil.

1 tablespoon sunflower oil
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
Pinch of Himalayan salt, pepper, mixed herbs
The Power Of Water
With enough time water is the most powerful force on the planet. Well, maybe it needs gravity, but water is powerful, and it makes us more powerful. We need water to survive and thrive; it supports bodily function and metabolism. Too little water, though, is problematic.
You need 6-8 glasses a day. If you drink too much water you may burden your kidneys and flush out water soluble vitamins like B-group vitamins and vitamin C. Drink lemon water first thing every morning is an important part in Step 2 of the Skin Detox. It stimulate liver function and hydrates the body more effectively.
Step 3: Heal The Outside
Now that you’ve got your gut and your biggest organ – your skin – working together, it’s time to heal topically. What does this mean? You’ve already got a routine in place, but you may need to change some parts of this routine.
First, you’ve got to avoid harsh soaps, cleansers, peels, and scrubs. There are natural scrubs you can buy (or make) that will further benefit your skin. Choose natural, light, pH-balanced products and avoid moisturizing at night, which can suffocate skin.
Now that your skin is travelling the road to recovery, you don’t want to cover it up. Let it breathe overnight and it will stabilize its own moisture secretions. Avoid direct tanning and swimming in chlorinated water as these negatively affect all the work you’ve done.
This effectively ends the cleanse, but in truth you’re never done. You’ve got to commit to a consistent skin care routine. You’ll notice acne clear and blemishes soften. A clearer complexion will come, but you can’t revert to excess oil production.
The key is diet and safe products. Choose the right foods and the right brands for your skin issues, and your skin will be much happier.
