Cleanse Your Liver With Homemade Beet Borscht

Your liver is one of your most important organs. In fact, it’s a gland and an organ, doing everything from detoxing your blood to regulating your hormones. You liver is the biggest internal organ your body has; it processes everything you eat, drink, or permeates your body.

Because of all this work your liver is forced to do, it makes sense that it can get slowed down. If you don’t treat your liver well, it can easily become impaired or run-down with illnesses like fatty liver disease, cirrhosis, fibrosis, or worse.

So how do you cleanse your liver? How do you keep your liver running at peak efficiency? How can you reverse years of damage you didn’t even know you were doing to your liver?

Beet Borscht.

Any fermented foods are good for the health of your liver, but beets may be the best. The beet is such a hardy vegetable that preparing them is a process. Cutting these tough veggies can prove so tough that you may want a food processor to prepare them for borscht.

“The beet mobilizes the liver like perhaps no other food and in so doing moves gallstones, hardened bile, accumulations of cholesterol, calcified ‘liver gravel’, chaff and other waste products through the bile ducts and into the GI tract. In this way these unwanted detoxification byproducts can be permanently expelled from the body.”

Get Beet Down

Without further ado, here is the recipe your liver has been waiting for. Put down the glass of wine and reach instead for the bottle with beets in it. Sure they’re both dark red, but one makes your liver work harder, the other makes it work better.

The Easy & Delicious Beet Borscht Liver Cleanser

Ingredients

3 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar

2 cups Beets

1/4 tsp Black Pepper

2 cups Cabbage (cooked)

4 whole Carrots

3/4 cups Dill

1 whole Potato*

1/4 tsp Himalayan Mountain Salt (Mineral Salt)

2 tbsp Sunflower Oil

1/2 cup Yellow Onion

2 Garlic Cloves

Garnish with Parsley

Salt to taste

(Sauerkraut can be substituted for cabbage and apple cider vinegar.)

Method

First chop your onions, potatoes, carrots, beets, and cabbage thinly. Then place them, and all the other ingredients into a large pot. Cover with water, then add twice the amount of water to ensure the veggies are well underwater. Bring to a boil, then let simmer covered for 1 hour.

Now you can look forward to a cleaner-working liver. Enjoy this Russian soup every now-and-then, drink beet juice, or just eat pickled beets. Any fermented food is good for your gastrointestinal tract, your liver function, and your overall wellbeing.

Enjoy!
