You’re The Woman Without A Tribe. You, My Dear, Are Not Broken. People Just Don’t Know How Wonderful You Are Yet. You Are Not Alone.

I’m not big on social media. I don’t really follow anyone, and I am only on Facebook because of family stuff. Although I’ve extended my friends to include older acquaintances from days gone by it’s only because random people have found me. I have never friended anyone on my own. And it’s not because I’m older or antisocial. I just think social media can really be a drag because it never shuts up. It also seems to create a tribe mentally that can make others feel left out or like they’re missing the boat on life.

Woman Without A Tribe

Part of the dislike I have for social media comes from an endless need for people to share everything. Frankly, to me it comes off too braggy. When I see the slices of life from younger people, especially women, there is a vanity I see that is very off-putting. And that includes the extremely exclusive images with little jabs of hashtags like #meandmygirls or #girltribe. It’s just so “look how popular I am, don’t you wish you were me?” My answer is Uh, no.

Woman Without A Tribe FOMO

Just because women don’t have a glamorous life of endless selfies doing shallow things, doesn’t mean a woman’s life still isn’t grand. So for all those ladies out there finding themselves doubting they’re living well, shut it off and forget about FOMO. You’ve got your own life going on. That’s probably why you’re not spending all your time posting on social media.

Girl Without A Tribe, Woman Without A Tribe

I’ve always been a woman without a tribe. It started as a girl without a tribe of course. I’ve always been different and felt I never quite fit in. By the time I hit high school, I flitted from friend group to friend group like a lost butterfly. People say I was very pretty and that worked against me instead of making me feel included. Jealousies ran deep even though the term frenemy didn’t exist yet. My generation was just as good at disguising hateful girls as friends as they are today.

Woman Without A Tribe Not Always Lonely

Oddly, although there were times I felt lonely, I didn’t long to be in any of those groups. I found them sad and silly. And now, with social media, the need to prove how beautiful you are every minute of every day must be exhausting. It’s time people take a stand and learn to be better, not than everyone else, but then themselves. Being the best person we can be is the best way to turn the world around.

Woman Without A Tribe: Celebrate Uniqueness

So to the women “without a tribe” celebrate the fact you aren’t stuck in an endless cycle trying to relive your glory days from high school. While it’s lovely for those women who manage to hold on to what might turn out to be lifelong friendships, you are living a life learning more about yourself. Finding new friends, and yes, dare I say even some male friends allows you to learn new things and see the world through different eyes. Living outside a tribe is empowering because it is more inclusive, intriguing, and independent. You don’t need to keep up with anyone. Walk at your own pace, celebrate your uniqueness, and embrace the wonderful new people you meet along the way.
