You read it right the first time, wine has been shown to help fight the creation of fat cells! Researchers have found that a compound found in wine called piceatannol is what works to help control fat cells.
Piceatannol binds itself to insulin receptors and blocks its ability to control cells cycles. By blocking these pathways, immature fat cells are unable to grow.
Wine About It
Piceatannol could also help delay the formation of mature fat cells, or even stop the formation completely.
Of course, you should drink in moderation. 2-3 glasses a week is what is recommended by researchers. Excessive alcohol consumption has many well known negative effects that overshadow the positives.
Alcohol Free Fat Blockers
If you are abstaining from alcohol, here are some options that work to fight the absorption of fat in the body.
Apples
Apples are great for fighting fat because they have loads of fiber and a specific complex carbohydrate called pectin. Pectin actually prevents your body from absorbing large amounts of fat. Just eating 2 servings of fruit daily can help reduce the amount of fat your body absorbs.
But you don’t have to munch on just apples all day, pectin can also be found in bananas, grapefruits, oranges and apricots. Yum!
Whole Grains
Another great food group that can help fight fat absorption in the body is whole grains. The Harvard School of Public Health states that whole grains can help cancer, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes.
Whole grains are also packed with fiber. They support healthy bowel movements, aid in weight loss, controls blood sugar levels, and lower cholesterol levels. Other great sources of fiber are barley, whole oats, brown rice, nuts and seeds, beans, and whole wheat bread. Please note I generally do not recommend wheat but if you do consume wheat your best option is a sprouted bread like Ezekial.
We know you don’t need another excuse to enjoy a nice glass of wine, but next time you’re having drink, raise a glass to the fact that you’re fighting fat while doing so.
