Pharmaceutical corporations, particularly those with extremely aggressive lobby groups and advertising departments, are slowly undoing the medical progress achieved in the last century.
You’re probably asking yourself why would anyone jeopardize your family’s wellbeing and our country’s healthcare system?
The answer is simple: don’t buy into the PR saying these companies are out to take care of us, all they really care about is to increase their profits at our expense.
Unnecessary prescriptions on general illnesses are already extremely controversial thanks to the unethical relationships some corporations have with the doctors prescribing drugs, and it seemed that things could not get any worse.
I’m afraid I was wrong, some pharmaceuticals are now trying to push medications designed to treat mental illness onto people who really don’t need it.
The Truth About Depression and Mental Illnesses
Before I start exploring this recent and dire development, I just want to clear the air on one issue. Mental illnesses are a very serious and can ultimately threaten an entire family’s wellbeing.
If you and your family doctor realize, after exploring all your options, that medication is the best way to make sure you are safe and begin healing, follow their advice and counsel.
Therapy is also an amazing form of treatment that can work wonders in the long run.
But that doesn’t mean that’s all there is to do. You can proactively support these treatments by identifying which nutritional deficiencies can cause depression, understanding how to cope with some of its symptoms naturally, or just simply increasing your daily turmeric intake.
That being said, new studies have shown an increasingly troubling trend.
Toddlers Are Now Taking Prozac
Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you nor have I lost all common sense, children are currently now taking antidepressant and antianxiety medication.
It’s news like this that really hits me hard and only makes me want to redouble my efforts to help as many people adopt a healthy holistic lifestyle.
The American Horror Story That’s Happening Right Now
A recent 2013 study revealed that rough 274,000 babies younger than 12 months and 370,000 infants, aged between 1 to 3 years of age, were actually receiving a regular dose of antidepressants and antianxiety medication.
To add insult to injury, another study revealed that at least 10,000 toddlers were already receiving a prescription for ADHD treatments.
Other horrifying statistics include that prescriptions for powerful antipsychotics in young children have also risen significantly. These medications also can triple these children’s risk to suffer diabetes by threefold.
Children in our welfare system are already at risk because they’re normally diagnosed with some of condition to make their behavior more amenable for the system.
Why is This Happening Now?
It ultimately comes down to the question of how we hope to modify our kids’ behavior and how much can we trust psychiatric diagnoses on young children who still not developed fully mature personalities.
You can’t also forget how lucrative these prescriptions can be for certain pharmaceuticals.
A healthy alternative is to start learning which behavioral therapies can actually help our toddlers without depending on prescription medicine.
