This Futuristic Camping Trailer Rotates Around To Reveal Huge Party Deck

I grew up camping nearly every weekend in the summer. My family had a worn, but comfortable, trailer. There was enough room for everyone to hunker down at night, but it wasn’t fancy. There was no television, air conditioning, or refrigerator for that matter.

But for campers of the future, there may be the opportunity to have all the amenities of home plus additional features to make outdoor excursions exceptional. One visionary trailer, called the Romotow (Room To Move), is definitely the embodiment of innovative camping and may draw more people into this favorite American past time.

An Idea Is Born

In general, camping tents and trailers have been continuously improving with upgrades in technology. But rarely does a camping trailer company develop an idea that is both chic AND functional. That is until the Romotow came along.

In 2012, New Zealand’s architectural and interior design firm W2 designed the Romotow camping trailer to spice up the RV world (Custom RV is more affordable than a custom yacht per se). The trailer differs from traditional campers due, in large part, to its modern look and huge party deck. At just the push of a button or with a manual crank, a parked Romotow camper will rotate from the center, and fold at 90 degrees. The rotation reveals a party-ready deck.

The concept is stunning visually with the deck lined by synthetic teak (used on luxury superyachts), and a pop-out electric barbecue. (1)

Reinventing Camper Design

Beyond the huge party deck, which is sure to make indoor-outdoor living easy when camping, the interior of the Romotow trailer is worth discussing as well. Measuring 30 feet long by 8.5 feet wide when closed, the trailer has an impressive 290 square feet of living space complete with two bathrooms. Four adults can sleep comfortably within the Romotow cabin – two in the front and two in the rear. The front sleeping quarters is created by folding down the living room couch.

All Romotow trailers come with a sleek white exterior made from a shell composite body and carbon composite chassis. Inside, the camper displays high-end fixtures, teak panelling, custom built-in window shades, and a leather headboard. State-of-the-art sound is also integrated throughout the trailer’s design, including on the deck, so the tunes can roll all weekend long. Yet, there still is some variability for those who prefer a customized trailer. For instance, kitchen spaces can upgraded to higher-end finishes, and deck enclosure kits are sold separately that can create either more sleeping room or living room out on the patio. (1)

The Build

Currently, Romotow trailer’s are under construction in Christchurch, New Zealand and are priced starting at $350,000 USD. However, these builds are limited and it is unclear if the campers are available worldwide.

Shipped from factory to buyer, Romotow manufacturer’s boast the trailers are made from the highest quality materials New Zealand has to offer. Each trailer comes equipped with 1 KW of solar panels and a 400Ah battery to allow for off-grid living. Diesel cooking systems installed in the kitchen allow for more traditional culinary experiences too. All trailers are made exceptionally light and easy to haul anywhere.

You can follow the creation of these incredible trailers on their Facebook page! (2, 3)
