A tea detox, or teatox, is a great way to stay hydrated while flushing toxins and waste from your body. Herbal teas have alkalizing properties to help cleanse your system and reduce swelling and inflammation.
Use these 3 teatox recipes interchangeably or choose your favorite and drink up! Aim for drinking 2 liters a day, which includes high water content and herbal teas. Found on Food Matters, these tea mixtures each offer a different flavor and different set of health benefits.
Green Teatox
Green Tea – contains theanine, an amino acid proven to reduce stress and improve brain power thanks to its high level of antioxidants. Green tea is also known to lessen arthritis symptoms, lower blood pressure, and boost metabolism.
Chamomile – this calming tea soothes the nervous and digestive systems. It offers relaxation and soothes the muscles in your digestive tract.
Rosehip – is one of the best plant sources of vitamin C, which is necessary for a healthy immune system, skin, tissue, and adrenal function.
Hibiscus – is high in antioxidants helping to rid your body of free radicals that damage cells. Antioxidants help reverse the inflammatory process caused by these toxins.
Ingredients
- 1 tsp green tea
- 1 tsp chamomile flowers
- 1 tsp dried rosehip
- 1 tsp dried hibiscus
Combine the teas in a teapot with 2 cups of boiling water. Let steep for 3-4 minutes. If you buy your own teabags, you can create your own bags of this Green Teatox. The recipe serves 1-2, although doubling or tripling the amounts gives you a full pot to pour and enjoy all day long.
White Teatox
White Tea – is similar to green tea – they’re derived from the same plant, although white tea is harvested at a younger age, which, it is said, gives white tea its abundant antioxidant levels.
Ginger – stimulates your circulatory system, which promotes blood flow and warms the body.
Cinnamon – helps to control your blood sugar levels while it reduces stress and inflammation. Cinnamon also adds a warming, fragrant touch.
Lemon – is a great digestive aid thanks to its high vitamin C levels. Lemon in warm water aids with digestion by calming tense muscles that surround your intestines. These muscles become constricted during the inflammatory process.
Raw Organic Honey – is a boost to your immune system, as well as a digestive tract aid and a stress reliever. Also a good natural source of energy.
Ingredients
- 1 tsp white tea
- 1-inch fresh ginger grated or sliced
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 fresh lemon, sliced
- 1 tsp honey
Combine all the ingredient in a small teapot with 2 cups of boiling water. Let steep for 5-6 minutes. This combination of tea is best enjoyed fresh.
Red Teatox
Rooibos Tea – is rich in mineral content and promotes healthy skin, teeth, and bones. Also high in antioxidants, rooibos teas soothe and calm the body to promote longevity.
Peppermint – stimulates the circulatory system and promotes blood flow, increasing metabolism and helping the digestive process. This tea helps with energy levels.
Licorice protects the gastrointestinal tract and fights gas, bloating, and abdominal pain.
Ingredients
- 1-2 tsp rooibos tea
- Small handful of fresh peppermint or 1 tsp dried peppermint tea
- 1 tsp licorice tea or fresh licorice root
In a small teapot combine all ingredients with 2 cups of boiling water. Serves 1-2 but increase the ingredients for a bigger pot and enjoy throughout the day.
