Mom Uses 7 Natural Arthritis Remedies to Alleviate Her Joint Pains

Nearly 20% of the U.S. adult population suffers from arthritis. And that figure only includes doctor-diagnosed cases. Arthritis is a chronic illness that includes over 100 rheumatic conditions and diseases. The most common of these are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis is more common in adults over 40 and is associated with aging. Rheumatoid arthritis, on the other hand – an autoimmune disorder – is often found in adults younger than 40.

Arthritis sufferers may experience joint pain, swelling, stiffness and aching. The auto-immune forms of arthritis (rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, for example) can cause additional symptoms in the body and may involve multiple organs. Arthritis can be debilitating and limits the activities of more than 40% of arthritis sufferers.

Here are some surprising natural remedies that I and many other regular men and women have found success with easing arthritis aches and pains:

Bentonite Clay

Taken internally, food-grade calcium bentoExercise-Eases-Arthritis-Painnite clay removes toxins and allergens from the gut. Those forms of arthritis associated with allergies are likely to respond most quickly to drinking clay. Bentonite clay also increases circulation in the body, which may also bring pain relief to sore joints.

Diet, Exercise and Weight Loss

OK, so this may not be such a surprise. But they’re such no-brainers with so much potential upside that I had to include it! Any one of these individually will help with arthritis pain. Together, eating whole-foods, plant-based diet along with regular exercise will likely result in weight loss. Less bulk on the same size frame will reduce the wear-and-tear on joints. Regular exercise can improve range of motion and joint flexibility. Nightshades (white potatoes, peppers, eggplant, and tomatoes) contain a toxin that interferes with enzymes in muscles that may cause pain. Green, leafy vegetables contain Vitamin K (and other minerals), which helps build and strengthen bones.

Far Infrared Heat

Unlike ordinary heat waves, far infrared heat penetrates several inches beneath the surface of the skin. This enhances the body’s metabolic responses and increases blood circulation. It also aids in oxygenation of tissues. Regular exposure to far infrared heat improves the skin’s ability to eliminate toxins, which improves detoxification.

Herbal Poultices

Used mindfully, herbs can be powerful remedies for arthritis. A poultice made with black mustard can relieve osteoarthritis (and should not be used for rheumatoid arthritis). Cayenne, mullein and slippery elm combined in equal parts moistened with apple cider vinegar also makes a poultice to apply to sore joints. Test both poultices on a small patch of skin to determine heat intensity. Cover the painful area with organic vegetable oil prior to applying poultice if too hot.

Sleep

Regular, adequate rest is grossly undervalued. While we sleep, the body goes through amazing rejuvenation and relaxation processes that stimulate healing. However, arthritis pain can make falling and/or staying asleep difficult. Herbal remedies including chamomile, valerian root and ashwaganda may help with sleep issues. Cool, dark and quiet are three keys to better sleep. Sleep with a window open, use blackout drapes and ban television, computers and other electronics from the bedroom.

Stretch Gloves

People that suffer from arthritic pain in the hands may find relief in stretch gloves. Through compression, regular wearing of stretch gloves can reduce pain and swelling. There are different types of gloves available that wrap the hand AND the wrists, while others allow use of the fingers. A newer type produces soothing far infrared heat when activated by sunlight.

Vitamin C

There is some scientific evidence showing that rheumatoid arthritis sufferers have a vitamin C. This shortage can aggravate rheumatoid arthritis. On the other hand, mega doses can contract the disease. Many consider the toxicity of vitamin C next to zero. Five hundred milligrams of vitamin C spread throughout the course of a day may bring positive results.
