This Is Your Body On Sugar

sugar body healthAlthough I always make references that processed sugars are one of the most toxic ingredients found in the standard American diet, I realize that I’ve not recently explored how truly horrifying it is for your health.

So without further ado, this is what happens when sugar gets inside your body.

This Is Your Body On Sugar

1. Your Emotional State

According to a recent study conducted at the California State University, just eating a regular candy bar (with a serving of roughly 24 grams of sugar) resulted in a quick sugar rush in participants. However, this benefit was very short lived because it only lasted for about an hour.

What followed after? Well, participants reported having a significant drop in energy and increased levels of stress.

Now imagine this emotional cycle recurring almost every day. It almost sounds like one of Dante’s descriptions of hell, right?

If you’re already coping with depression avoid processed sugar like the plague. It will only exacerbate your current condition.

2. Your Brain’s Ability to Function

Everyone’s had that one moment in their life when they’ve eaten too much and just decided to collapse in their sofas or beds.

Although you may be tempted to deduce that it was the sheer amount of food that caused your collapse, you would be making the wrong assumption. It was actually the sugar.

When your stomach begins absorbing sugar, your orexin levels plummets for up to three hours. Orexin is a neurotransmitter that boosts your wakefulness and your ability to focus.

If you can’t avoid sugar in your diet, you can counteract its effects by incorporating one of these sources of protein in your diet.

3. Your Skin’s Health

Your sweet tooth has no regard for your skin’s wellbeing. Why? Because as your stomach begins digesting sugars it kick starts a process call glycation.

During this process, sugars begin to bond with collagen, basically stealing it from your skin. Collagen is the main structural protein in multiple connective tissues in your body. Lack of collagen will result in saggy skin.

You can help undo the damage caused by sugars with recipes designed to boost your collagen levels. This anti-aging smoothie will hit just the right spot.

4. Your Heart

There’s no way to sugarcoat this, but the facts are pretty grim. A recent study demonstrated that participants who had around 25% of their calorie intake in the form of sugars actually had 275% high rate of dying by heart disease.

If you can’t avoid sugar, make sure it does not represent more than 10% of your daily calorie intake. Again, including more proteins in your diet definitely helps.

5. Your Pancreas

Having a high intake of sugar in your diet wreaks havoc in your pancreas’ ability to produce and regulate the insulin in your blood. In fact, high sugar consumption rates are intricately bound to diabetes.

If you feel that you’re consuming too much sugar, cut it down significantly as soon as possible. There is no known cure for diabetes; there are only ways to handle it.

I hope this helps keep you motivated to stay absolutely clear from this dangerous ingredient.
