Your Skin May Already Be Developing Cancer, and Here’s Why

skin and cancer

skin cancerThere’s a threat out there, a threat that could potentially live within your body. Cancer has plagued the world for many years now, and it seems that new discoveries regarding cancer have made it more terrifying than ever.

Your skin and cancer have developed a relationship that is very dangerous to your health. That is not to say that you in specific are in danger, but if you’re between the ages of 55 and 73 you could be at risk.

A study conducted with adults between the ages of 55 and 73 suggests that there may be 100 DNA mutations per 1 square centimeter of skin. Experts found these results to be extremely surprising. They had no idea that cancerous mutations lived so closely to each other, especially within our skin.

How Did This Happen?

skin cancer 2Skin cancer is one of the most common, and deadliest, forms of cancer out there. Typically ultraviolet-radiation from the sun punishes our skin and transforms healthy skin into cancerous tissue.

These mutations have been well documented over the years, but that’s not the issue. The issue is finding out when these mutations began, and how to effectively stop them from growing into something deadly.

After examining the DNA of a few volunteers between the ages of 55 and 73 researchers were able to understand how this cancerous tissue operates. They found that the cancerous tissue behaves rather the same as undamaged skin tissue.

The fact that these skin cells are functioning normally is very surprising to everyone, especially to researchers. They can’t seem to grasp why. Does this mean that this cancerous tissue is harmless? Absolutely not!

Just because a percentage of cancerous tissue is not causing any significant harm doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be paying close attention to sun exposure. Researchers have determined that sun exposure is one of the leading causes of cancerous mutations in the body.

What Can You Do About It?

The best thing you can do about this growing problem is protecting yourself from the sun. If you think this is going to be some long elaborate plan to avoid the ultraviolet radiation you’re wrong.

The solution is simple, use a sunscreen with an SPF (sun protection factor) of at least 30. This is a great way to protect your skin from the harmful damage we’re all aware the sun is capable of causing.

Another good way to avoid the power of the sun is to wear clothing that covers up most of your body. More often than not people will go outside with little to no clothes on and don’t expect to get attacked by the sun. Sometimes sunscreen is not enough, making sure that you have the appropriate attire will ensure that you are protecting your body.

A common misconception is that the sun is only dangerous when it is hot outside. This is false. The sun has powerful ultraviolet rays that can damage your skin even when the temperature outside has not gotten too hot. So next time you know you’re going to spend some time outside take into consideration the damage you’re doing to your skin.

Don’t be ashamed to spend some time in the shade, it’s often one of the best solutions for overexposure to the sun. That little bit of shade does wonders for your skin.

Do What You Can Starting Today

skin cancer 1Exercise this knowledge while you are young. Often people regret not taking care of their body, especially as they get older. The best thing you can do is start using this information to your advantage today.

People often don’t believe that cancer, in specific skin cancer, will cause them harm. This belief usually goes out the window the day their doctor tells them that there is cancer living inside of their skin.

Hearing words like that can really leave people scared and feeling hopeless. Although researchers have stated that the majority of the cancerous tissue is functioning normally and almost harmless, there is still the chance of something developing.

Like I said before, skin cancer is one of the most popular forms of cancer in America. Your immune system can only remove so many cancerous cells. Although it does a good job, you must help your body fight this deadly disease.

One of the worst things you can do is ignore this information and continue doing whatever it is you’re doing. People don’t pay much attention to this problem, but I am hoping research like this will convince people to change their ways.

Always remember that prevention is the first line of defense when it comes to skin cancer.  The health of your skin is in your hands, don’t forget to use sunscreen, enjoy the shade and wear clothing that covers you up. This information could ultimately save your life one day.

Pass this information on to everyone you know because after all there is no harm in being safe.
