Ladies, it is understandable how frustrating retaining hair length can be. Hair breakage is slightly above nail breakage on the list of cosmetic nuisances. You’ve probably tried so many products, methods and procedures that you don’t even know what’s helping or hurting your hair anymore!
How do you know if you have hair breakage or normal hair shedding?
Depending on the sex and age, the average person loses around 50 to 200 strands of hair a day. If you’re losing more than that, you’ve got yourself a hair breakage problem.
What causes hair breakage?
Though 60% of your hair condition is due to your genetics, 40% of your hair’s fate is within your control, and 40% is still a pretty large chunk! Hair breakage can be caused by a lack of moisture in the hair, a lack of nutrients in the hair, friction causing split ends, tangles, and stress on the hair strands from really tight hair styles.
So, what is the ultimate healthy hair care routine? Here are the 9 key hair care tips you need to keep your beautiful hair on your head!
1. Remove split/dead ends.
I know this seems counterproductive at first, but split/dead ends will work their way up your hair strand and cause the whole strand to break.
2. Brush your hair often.
Yes, hair comes out when you do this, but this is natural shedding. Brushing your hair regularly keeps your hair from getting tangled, knotted and ultimately breaking. Avoid brushing your hair when it is wet.
3. Apply a protective heat serum when you use heat.
This will minimize any heat damage that can occur during blow drying and further heat styling.
4. Try using more natural products.
Olive oil and coconut oil are some of the products that will give you all the benefits of a beauty product without the harsh chemicals or high price tag!
5. Choose the right products for your hair.
Coarse, dry/brittle hair generally needs heavier, more hydrating products than oily or normal hair.
6. Wear more up dos:
If you have longer hair that you wear out a lot, your hair strands rub against clothing fabric, and are exposed to harsh weather. Your hair is also more likely to get pulled, yanked or snagged by accident. A loose bun can do wonders in the fight against hair breakage. However, NEVER use rubber bands to tie your hair!
7. Be mindful of how frequently you wash your hair.
Normal hair should be washed every other day, only oily and fine hair needs to be washed every day, and coarse/dry/brittle hair only needs to be washed every second or third day!
8. Eat healthy.
Your hair is affected by what you eat too. Be sure to eat your daily recommended fruits, vegetables and drink plenty of water. Eating fish and lean meats are also great for your hair too.
9. Moisturize your hair.
Well moisturized hair is less prone to dryness and breakage.
