I dare you to find a living soul that doesn’t enjoy a good gummy; be it the traditional gummy bears or wine gummies or any new products introduced to the market by Maynard’s.
In fact, this type of candy may be that one snack that brings back my fondest childhood memories.
However, like most staples of the North American diet, gummies also have a bittersweet reality.
Thanks to the corners cut by big candy producers to increase their profits at the expense of your family’s health and wellbeing, you simply can’t enjoy these sweet treats without exposing your family to multiple health issues.
Why?
Let’s begin with the big danger: processed sugar. I don’t know why people still eat on this on a regular basis. Yes, it’s sweet but it’s also on the top 10 most dangerous food ingredients.
And for good reason, because frequent consumption of processed sugar can potentially cause you to develop diabetes, some types of cancer, and even cause an incredible amount of damage to your liver.
To add insult to injury, a 2012 study showed that children eating processed sugar were increasingly liable to suffer from diminished cognitive and memory forming habits.
Seems like the sweet sugary rush from gummy candy is definitely not worth the cost in your family’s quality of life, right?
To top things off, gummy candy offers virtually no unique nutritional value for all the damage it causes to your body.
One of the key factors in adopting a healthy holistic diet is to take absolute control into what goes into your meals by simply making it yourself. This way you make sure corporations are not making a profit at your expense.
Don’t worry; I got you covered in case you still want to satiate that childhood craving for gummies.
Homemade Watermelon Gummies
Here’s what you’ll need:
– ¼ of a cup of raw organic honey
– ½ a cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
– 2 cups of watermelon juice (or 4 cups of watermelon chunks for reference)
– 6 tablespoons of grass fed gelatin
Here’s what you’ll need to do:
– Liquefy the fresh watermelon chunks and then strain it through a fine mesh strainer to get rid of the pulp.
– Make sure you skim the foam that will form at the top of the watermelon juice.
– Split the watermelon juice in two equal halves; place one half in a bowl and the other half in a small saucepan.
– Sprinkle the grass fed gelatin into the bowl and wait for it to dissolve. After a few minutes, it will solidify.
– Lightly heat the watermelon juice in the saucepan, do not boil or burn it.
– Add the juice and gelatin to the saucepan; whisk it until it’s smooth.
– Add the raw organic honey and lemon juice; whisk away again.
– Pour the entire mix in your mold of choice and let it cool for about 40 minutes in your fridge.
– Once it’s set, can remove the gummies from the molds. You can store it at room temperature or your fridge.
Mostly every unhealthy meal can be cooked with the perfect ingredients to make it a boon to your health!
