Hmmmm. Not sure if this is something to be proud of. If you’re a difficult woman so be it, but shouldn’t we aim to be better people? By all means drop the good girl persona if it doesn’t suit you. But where does the world go if everyone decides being a difficult, unapologetic person becomes the norm? To hell, if you ask me. But is that newfound power being put to good use? Is being bitchy okay because it’s easier for you? Isn’t leading a mindful life the right route to go since it provides peace of mind and a better, more centered sense of being? Let’s try to get this right once and for all. (1)
Goodbye Good Girl Self-Sacrifice
So, sure we shouldn’t go around putting ourselves at risk through endless self-sacrifice. We need to take care of ourselves, I’m up with that. But why does it have to be replaced with selfishness and a lack of regard for others? Isn’t this something to be more ashamed of then allowing ourselves to live a life of subjugation? If you feel oppressed stick up for yourself. It’s your right as a human being. But seriously will you feel better about yourself by acting like a person who doesn’t care about anyone else? I doubt it. (1)
A Good Girl Can Still Grow
The good girl can grow without becoming a difficult, unapologetic woman. What is it you are not apologizing for? Is it for treating someone on the bus beside you with total disregard because your feet hurt, and you think you deserve the seat instead of that elderly man? Or is it because you just didn’t feel like making cupcakes for your kid’s bake sale? Because there are scales on which we are judged by ourselves and society. A good person offers the seat to the old guy, while a tired mom has every right to say no to making cupcakes. (1)
A Good Girl Stands Up For Themselves
Stand up for yourself and make it clear you won’t take second place to the male boss, overbearing partner or traditional bullies who try to make you feel inferior. Feel strong enough to cut the people out of your life who constantly bring you down including those horrible frenemies who try to make you feel small so they can feel better about their own crappy lives. But don’t use your new found “power” to put others down because you’re sick of being nice. (1)
A Good Girl Speaks The Truth
Good girls aren’t afraid to speak the truth even when it hurts, seems too loud or too opinionated. Say what’s in her heart, but does it have to be vicious with intent to mark a victory? The unapologetic woman might step over a line because she thinks she can do no wrong, or say whatever she likes. If it isn’t at the cost of another person’s rights, or beliefs her courage and love will be what shines, not her just simply being a “good girl.” (1)
A Good Girl Creates A Happier World
There are bad things happening in society today and good girls take on the world. She is the one who stands up for the rights of others and refuses to become a part of society that allows others to be trampled upon. She might not always be holding a sign or shouting the loudest at the protest, but she is always speaking up when injustice occurs. She hears the horrible words and sentiments that encourage hate and inequality and stops them in their tracks. (1)
So if you’re going to tear down your good girl persona, remember the keyword is good. Stop apologizing for having a mind, a strong body, and your own beliefs, but never take the good out of your heart. That is where the strength lies in all of us. (1)
