5 Easy Homemade Remedies For Bee Stings

bee sting

Ouch! Bee and wasp stings are a pain no matter how many times you’ve had one in the past. There’s no better way to have a walk, soccer game or gardening day ruined then by accidentally provoking an angry wasp to sting you.

Don’t let be stings get the better of you any longer! Here are five incredibly simple home remedies that you can use to relieve the pain and irritation of bee stings, and help them go away faster.

5 Easy Home Remedies For Bee Stings

Beeswax Balm

This is a simple blend to combat bee stings that’s easy to make at home, and it’s made with everything that you probably already have in the cupboards. You can make it in larger quantities if you want, and save it in little tins that can be brought with you in a bag, or stored in the cupboard for whenever you need it.

Ingredients
  • 2-3 teaspoons of beeswax
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
  • 4 drops of lavender essential oil
  • ½ teaspoon or so of raw honey
Directions
  1. Melt your beeswax and coconut oil together
  2. Remove from the heat
  3. Stir in essential oil and honey (if you’re using it.)
  4. Pour into a small tin, put the lid on, and let it cool completely before use.

Baking Soda Paste

This is another homemade remedy that’s incredibly easy to make. Add just enough water to a little baking soda that it makes a paste. The paste should be thin enough to spread over the affected area, but not so thick that it clumps and falls off. If the sting is on a place like your foot or arm, covering the mixture with a bandage can help. Make sure to thoroughly rinse before reapplying.

Mud

Sometimes bee stings can happen when you least expect it, and when you’re far away from home. If you happen to be stung by a bee while out in the forest or at a soccer game, all you need to do is apply a little mud to the affected area. It isn’t a perfect solution, but it will reduce the itchy and irritation until you’re able to get home. Cover the sting completely with mud when you are out, and when you get home, proceed to rinse completely clean and pat dry.

Rhubarb Juice

Nothing gets much more simple then this remedy! All you need is a fresh stalk of rhubarb (if you’re stung while out in your backyard, this could be closer at hand then anything else!). Simply grab a stalk of rhubarb, and squeeze a bit of juice directly onto the sting. Repeat as often as needed until the pain subsides.

Don’t be alarmed if doing this temporarily stains your skin a little.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender is an amazingly soothing essential oil that can ease discomfort and help with swelling, and ease the discomfort that leads to itching an irritation. One drop of pure essential lavender can be applied directly to the sting, as long as the stinger is completely removed before application. If you aren’t comfortable with pure oil, you can dilute it with a small amount of liquid neutral oil.

The lavender oil should be applied twice in the first day that the bee sting happens, then once the day after.
