How to Make A Simple and Safe Moisturizer

Did you know the FDA conducts pre-market reviews of very few additives and active ingredients in over the counter beauty products?

The truth is a vast number of beauty and cosmetic companies go completely unregulated when it comes to their ingredients. The FDA does not review or approve most of what is sold in stores and marketed as “health and beauty” products.

The European Union has banned the use of over 1000 ingredients in cosmetics sold there. The FDA has a list of just 8. With the exception of those 8 prohibited chemicals, American cosmetic companies can use just about any ingredient without review or approval.

It’s no secret that consumers like to see stamps and certifications on the labels of the products they buy, so how does the FDA get away with it? It’s called the Cosmetic Ingredient Review panel.

This group essentially regulates itself. In 30 years it has found only 11 ingredients harmful, and even then the recommendations made by this panel, are not legally binding to companies.

It gets worse.

Even those products labeled natural or organic have been found to contain synthetics and toxic chemicals. “Organic” and “natural” do not mean free of chemicals apparently. The FDA allows products with as little as 10% actual organic ingredients to be given a certified organic stamp of approval.

The FDA went as far as to try and change the official definition for the term natural in 1998. Luckily it was overruled in court. I could go on about all the terrible truths of cosmetic chemicals, but I think you are getting the idea.

It is as important make sure you know what is going ONTO your body as it is to know what is going INTO your body. Manufactured moisturizers main goal is not to get rid of dry skin, because if that were the case, they wouldn’t make money.

Here is an excellent all natural, simple and effective moisturizer you can make at home and be assured that it’s free of harmful additives.

Ingredients:

1 tbsp raw honey
8 tbsp shredded beeswax
200ml apricot oil
1/2 cup filtered water
2 small jars with lids (glass baby food jars work well)

Directions:

Step 1: In a saucepan, melt the apricot oil, honey and beeswax together using very low heat.
Step 2: Slowly mix in your water (you can use rosewater alternatively if you want a fragrant cream) one drop at a time until its creamy in texture.
Step 3: Pour into your jars and let cool before sealing.

Based on a recipe that dates back 2000 years, this cold cream is rich and will calm dry, irritated skin in no time. It can also be used to remove makeup, reduce wrinkles and reverse signs of sun and skin damage. Plus it’s extremely cost efficient!
