Two things are precious in the morning: time and breakfast.
We live in such a fast-paced world that it seems we never have enough time, and certainly never enough time for breakfast. We grab “granola” bars with names like Nutri-grain because they sound healthy. We grab “fruit” drinks with 100% fruit juice without realizing all the health has been stripped away in the refining process.
Our lifestyles have opened the door to corporations like Coca-Cola and Kellogg’s. We said “We never have enough time to eat healthily” and they said, “We’ll produce and package something healthy* for you.”
*Healthy is a great buzzword, and any fruits or veggies we use will be GMOs. Plus, there will be a ton of added sugar to that you and your kids love it. And we’ll throw in a ton of sodium, and package it in plastics so they have longer shelf life. You think you’re getting something good for you, but really, it’s just good for our finances.
It is always better to eat whole, natural foods. Even at breakfast.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day; you replenish your body’s needs by eating carbs and proteins that get you through the day. I’ve found an excellent trick to help you speed up your morning routine while feeding you a healthy, delicious breakfast.
The trick is this: make eggs in a muffin tray.
Simple, right? You can make a full week’s worth of eggs in one shot, and have them ready for healthy egg sandwiches in minimal time. Here’s what you do:
- Spray* the well’s of your muffin tray
- Crack an egg into each well
- Cook in oven at 350°F for 15min.
- Save in a sealable container and store in the fridge
*Here’s a homemade alternative to store-bought sprays.
That’s it.
Every morning you can have a breakfast sandwich in minutes. Just grab your bread-of-choice, reheat the egg, and go. The egg packs protein and the bread has complex carbohydrates that keep you going.
You can even add spinach to the eggs before cooking, to gain the health benefits. Spinach is a wonderful antioxidant with anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties, as well as Vitamin K, which promotes and maintains bone health.
Don’t get weighed down by plastic-packaged products, especially first thing in the morning. We’ve let the Monsantos of the world into our kitchens. They hide behind words like “healthful” and “natural” while shoving GMOs, sweetened with added sugars, down our throats. We let the Cargills and the McDonaldses feed us breakfast sandwiches and lies.
Take back breakfast. Use this simple trick to making a week’s worth of egg sandwiches. And you’ll have McNothin’ to worry about.
