Summer is a glorious season, but with it comes one dreadful side effect: breast sweating. It’s difficult to keep your cool when underneath your beautiful dress, sweat is dripping down the front of you. Frozen bra inserts could be the answer to all your troubles, but they may actually have multiple beneficial uses.
Okay, But What Is It?
Bra inserts are exactly as they sound. A company called Polar Products makes cooling packs that fit inside 100% cotton covers—called the Cool58 Breast Cooler. The cooling pack can be thrown in the freezer or submerged in ice water for 20 minutes and then inserted into the cotton cover and then placed inside a bra, or inserted without the cover. The packs will keep you cool for one to two hours and help you conquer breast sweating.
When you’re finished using them, toss the covers in the wash, sanitize the cooling pack, and then reuse. The packs are non-toxic and non-flammable and are not affected by humidity or outside temperature. They can be placed in the bra, or simply placed on the breast for relief.
This seems like a genius product, and women agree. One woman reviewed the product, saying, “I used the bra coolers the first day that I got them. Texas had already reached at least 100 that week. Best purchase I have made. I would recommend to any female.” (1) Another said, “The scarf and bra coolers are so discreet and really helpful, especially with the inserts frozen solid.” (1)
Other Potential Uses
Hot Flashes & Night Sweats
About 75% of all menopausal women experience hot flashes and night sweats, making it the most common symptom. (2) They tend to last 3-4 minutes and are worsened by exertion, alcohol, emotional stress, and other things. (2) Additionally, severe hot flashes at night were associated with chronic insomnia, and hot flashes may last as long as 5 years after the last menstrual cycle. (3) What if you could relieve heat at night with bra coolers?
Headache or Migraine Relief
Cool packs targeting the carotid arteries at the neck reduce pain in patients with migraine headaches. (4) Applying a frozen neck wrap at the onset of a migraine was shown to reduce pain, with the most pain reduction appearing after 30 minutes. (4) Try applying a cooling pack to the sides of the neck.
Breast Engorgement
New moms understand the pain of breast engorgement when the milk floods in. Women have been told to insert cold cabbage leaves in their bras, and it is actually clinically relevant. In fact, both cold cabbage leaves and a combination of hot and cold compresses are equally effective at reducing breast engorgement. (5) However, a combination of hot and cold compresses reduces pain from breast engorgement better than cold cabbage leaves on their own. (6) Alternate cooling packs with a hot compress to reduce pain and engorgement.
Other Heat Sensitive Conditions
Certain medical conditions like thyroid diseases, hormone imbalances, Multiple Sclerosis, and neurological conditions are sensitive to heat because of the impact on the hypothalamus. (7) Using a cooling pack may help reduce heat and have a positive impact on heat intolerance.
Freezable bra inserts might just help more than breast sweating.
