Wouldn’t you love to be pampered with an all natural, nutrient rich facial followed by a gourmet snack? Sounds like something you could only get at a high end spa? Think again.
Expensive spa treatments are great and all but who has the extra money kicking around for that!
Luckily the secret to that after spa glow can be found in your very own kitchen and at a fraction of the cost.
Here is one of my favorite recipes for an all natural do-it-yourself face mask. This decadent DIY edible and moisture rich face mask will not only leave your skin supple and sunny, it tastes amazing too! Make sure you double the recipe for a little taste of heaven.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup organic oats
- 2 tablespoons of almond butter
- 3/4 cup of water
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon of chia seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla powder
- 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
- 3 pitted Medjool dates
Method:
Soak the dates in hot water until soft then blend with almond butter, water, coconut oil, cinnamon, and vanilla until smooth and creamy.
Incorporate the oats and chia seeds and mix by hand. Let sit in the refrigerator for 20 minutes. I like to use this time to light some candles and run myself a nice epsom salt bath.
Liberally apply a layer of the mixture to your face and let sit for 15 minutes – in which time you can relax in that bath I mentioned earlier!
Simply rinse the mask off with warm water and follow with a splash of cold to keep the moisture locked in.
Now for the tasty treat! You know the leftover mixture, it makes a great snack on its own or even with added fresh fruit . I like to add cacao nibs which have the added skin boosting bonus of anti-oxidants.
What makes this mask so great aside from its delicious flavor?
Oatmeal is not only calming to blood sugar levels in the body when you eat it, but it has equally as soothing effects when used topically on the skin. The oats help pull oil and dirt from the pores and eases redness caused by irritated and dry skin.
The almond butter adds vitamin E to the mix which is well known for its anti-aging properties. Many of the top cosmetic creams incorporate synthetic vitamin E compounds for the same purpose. With this recipe you are getting the real deal.
Coconut oil has endless health benefits and is well known for its purifying and moisturizing abilities.
The chia seeds act as a natural buffer – both inside and out. They make an excellent addition to your digestion and can help alleviate indigestion, relieve intestinal blockages, and boost omega 3’s.
When used on the outside, chia seeds leave the skin smooth and glowing.
Finally, the cinnamon. This popular warming spice can help bring a healthy glow to the face while also cleaning it of impurities. It is both anti-fungal and antiviral, which is never a bad thing to eat either!
If those weren’t reasons enough to brew up a batch of this brilliant balm, the taste alone will have you wanting more!
