Fight Bad Breath Without the Chemicals With DIY Cinnamon Mouthwash

DIY cinnamon mouthwash

DIY cinnamon mouthwashAt work your coworkers seem to stand one step farther away from you. At home your spouse never seems to want to cuddle after dinner – you’ve got bad breath.

Now the question is, how do you get rid of it?

Sure, you can stop eating garlic and onions, but garlic and onions are delicious and are super good for you. You can’t give up pasta just for better breath.

And commercial mouthwashes aren’t really an option either. They taste like chemicals, the fluorescent colors look like chemicals, and the labels, well, they reveal that they are in fact full of chemicals. You don’t want to be gargling a mouthful of carcinogens wondering if any of them are dripping down the back of your throat. I’d take bad breath any day.

The Natural Solution to Bad Breath

Luckily, there are better options, like cinnamon mouthwash with lemon and honey. It gets rid of bad breath without all the chemicals and allows you to keep eating all the garlic you want.

What You’ll Need

–          the juice of 2 lemons

–          1 ½ teaspoons of honey (or a teaspoon of baking soda)

–          ½ tablespoon of cinnamon

–          1 cup of warm water

–          A bottle or container of some kind

What You Do

Simply mix the cinnamon, lemon juice, and honey together and stir well. Then add the mixture to the warm water and continue to stir until all the ingredients are mixed well. That’s really all there is to it.

How to Use

After meals, or in addition to brushing your teeth, gargle one or two tablespoons of the mouthwash and your breath will smell like lemons and cinnamon in no time. It’s a quick, cheap, and much healthier solution.

Why Cinnamon, Lemon, and Honey Work So Well

The most common cause of bad breath is food particles that have gotten stuck in your teeth and gums, and that have started to grow odor causing bacteria in your mouth and on your tongue.

Cinnamon works great because it has a nice smell, but also because it has anti-microbial properties. It helps to fight back the bacteria and prevents it from growing.

Lemon can also help kill odor causing bacteria. It can even be used as a body deodorant for that very reason. Plus, if any of the mouthwash does happen to go down your throat, instead of causing cancer, lemon juice can actually help sooth any swelling or soreness.

Similarly, honey is known both for its anti-bacterial properties and for its ability to sooth a sore throat. If you instead choose to go with baking soda, the added benefit is that it can actually help whiten your teeth.

Combined, these ingredients make a powerful mouthwash capable of fighting bad breath, regardless of what you eat. Though avoiding garlic and onions still wouldn’t hurt.
