DIY Avocado Fries

avocado friesPart of adapting a healthy diet is discovering how to identify and replace the foods that cause the most damage to your overall health and wellbeing.

For example, take the mighty French fry that’s always the assigned side dish to most of our sandwiches and meals. It’s so ingrained in our diets that when you imagine a hamburger, it’s always paired with French fries in your head.

It’s popular for a reason; fried food activates certain parts of our brains that we normally associate with pleasure. It should be of no surprise that millions of kids and adults will gladly eat them.

This is where our work as the head of our respective families takes place; we need to replace this dangerous food with a healthy homemade alternative.

But don’t worry, I’ve got the perfect recipe to help your family forget about the oily temptation of French fries and begin adopting a healthier alternative.

Homemade Avocado Fries

Here’s what you’ll need:

– ½ of a cup of gluten-free flour blend

– Enough egg replacer to substitute one egg

– ½ of a cup of organic non-dairy milk

– ½ of a tablespoon of smoked paprika

– Pepper

– Pink Himalayan Salt

– Organic Vegetable Oil

Here’s what you need to do:

You’ll first need to set up your prep area. Grab three bowls. Pour your milk in the first one. Place and mix the flour, paprika, pepper, and pink Himalayan salt in the second bowl. Place the egg replacer in the final bowl.

Now for the oil, simply coat the bottom of a frying with enough vegetable oil and bring it up to a medium heat.

Ok, now it can get a bit messy, so keep a towel nearby.

Begin by dunking your avocado slices in the milk, cover them in the flour mix, dip them in the egg replacer, and roll them again in the flour mix. Before moving on, make sure your avocado slice is evenly covered.

Rinse and repeat until all your avocado slices are ready to get fried.

Making sure you don’t burn yourself, gently place your avocado slices in the hot oil. Let them sit for about one to two minutes per side. Or at least until they’re crispy and golden.

One tip to keep them from feeling too oily is to let them cool off on a paper towel so it can absorb excess oil.

When serving them as a side dish, I recommend pairing them this amazing curry garlic aioli dip.

Why is it Healthier?

By incorporating avocadoes instead of potatoes, you’re basically getting rid of the heavy starch and carb overload that normally comes with standard French fries.

Pink Himalayan salt can actually help you modulate your blood pressure and stimulate an improved all-around circulation.

By adopting little recipe swaps like you can gradually improve your family’s diet by constantly offering them healthier alternatives that simply just taste better.

Best of all, your children will be none the wiser that they’re actually eating “yucky” healthy food.
