Dear Reader: These are extraordinary times we’re living in, and while we’ve always got an eye toward health and wellness, sometimes it’s not just about calories and fat grams. Self-care might look like an over-the-top carpet picnic in the living room, or sweet treats that aren’t normally a part of your diet. We believe that sometimes it’s OK to forego the status quo, and that’s why the Pandemic Pantry series includes some “yummy but maybe not for every day” recipes for you to try. Enjoy your treat!
One of toughest things about being quarantined, is sitting around thinking about all the fun and interesting places that we can’t go right now. It’s unprecedented for a lot of reasons, this pandemic; there is a surreal quality to it that is hard to ignore. For example, some of our most beloved American icons are simply closed for business. When has McDonald’s ever simply shut down? It’s totally unheard of. Parks, playgrounds, places to enjoy each other’s company are not an option in towns all across the US. It’s hard to imagine a Disney theme park as a ghost town, not a soul to be seen anywhere, but that’s the state of things right now. Both Disneyland in California and Disney World in Florida are shut down indefinitely while the pandemic continues. News stories like these are what add to that unbelievable feeling of our world right now. On some level it’s just… unfathomable…
Comfort Food For All
But just as McDonald’s shared with us their classic Egg McMuffin recipe, and Taco Bell gifted us the DIY Crunchwrap Supreme, so too has Disney come bearing gifts for us. They know that all of America loves their snacks. And they want to help the best way they know how: through kindness and sharing.
First it was their delectable Churro Bites, a perennial hit throughout generations of families. What’s not to love about deep fried dough covered in cinnamon and sugar? That’s right, nothing.
This week it’s the super easy 3-ingredient recipe for their world-famous Dole Whip, so if you’re craving a moment of magic in your own home, now’s the time!
To make one serving, simply combine in a blender until smooth:
- 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream
- 4 ounces of pineapple juice
- 2 cups of frozen pineapple chunks
As for how to create the perfect conical shape with decorative ripples, you’re on your own. But hey… maybe someone will release plans to 3-D print a soft serve machine! I’m just saying, we haven’t heard from Dairy Queen yet.
