We’ve all been there, we’ve all felt the horrible weight of anxiety on our shoulders, and while you might want to curl up into a ball and hide for a couple days, you’ll be much better off learning how to cope.
Everyone deals with anxiety differently so today I’m going to outline 6 different ways to deal with anxiety, that will cater to you, and you, and you.
1. Breathing Practices
Now before skip to the next suggestion, give this one a chance! Many people underestimate the effects of breathing properly until they actually try it. When you begin, sit on a couch or chair with your hand placed lightly over your abdomen. When you’re ready, inhale, letting your abdomen fill with air, but make sure that your shoulders do not rise.
When you’ve inhaled a large, comfortable breath, hold for 1-2 seconds and then very slowly exhale. Focusing on your breathing will do wonders for your crowded and over worked mind.
2. Say “No” To Caffeine
This trick might seem intimidating at first so if you can’t give up caffeine entirely, than at least limit yourself to 1 cup of coffee or tea or soda a day. Caffeine can literally be the fuel for your jitters and anxiety, so eliminating this potential cause can help you move forward.
Don’t be fooled by the calm, anxiety-free feeling you get when you’re enjoying your tea or coffee, because it’s the effects when they wear off that will leave you feeling anxiety ridden.
3. Endorphins
Endorphins are your friend! Try and do something active everyday, at least once a day. You don’t have to train for a marathon or spend all day at the gym, but take a brisk walk with your dog or do jumping jacks infront of the TV!
Endorphins can block the pain and stress brought on by anxiety and increases your energy level and mood drastically!
4. Take A Bath
I am a firm believer that sometimes everyone needs a little “me” time. There is no shame in running a nice warm bath and pampering yourself. Light some candles, and hey, you can ever practice your breathing while in the tub!
To increase the soothing effects on your stressed body, add Epsom salts or lavender oil to your bath water.
5. Cozy Drinks
When you wake up in the morning, on your break at work, when you arrive home, or before bed, make yourself a decaffeinated tea or a cup of warm organic milk.
Milk contains an amino acid called tryptophan, which has been linked directly to the production of serotonin in the body. Serotonin can make you feel happy and lighten your mood.
