Chilling Twist In Horror Head-On Smash: Handwritten Note Is Found 200m From The Scene Of Crash That Killed A Mother and her four children – as police say the letter points to murder-suicide

suicide, death

How do we ever really know when someone is struggling? After all, everyone is different. We all have different triggers, life expectations, and beliefs. Some may be able to share vulnerably in times of need. However, many struggle in silence, and in the worst cases turn to suicide, without showing any signs of turmoil.

Earlier this year, a Queensland mother and her four children were killed in a tragic car crash. But was the crash an accident, or suicide? Investigators continue to find answers about this immense tragedy. (1)

Suicide Tragedy

Far from their home and with reportedly no known reason to be heading that direction, 35-year-old Charmaine Harris McLeod and her four children were in a fatal car crash. The somber news on the crash made headlines throughout the UK. As friends and family mourned the loss of Charmaine and her kids, Aaleyn,6, Matilda, 5, Wyatt, 4, and Zaidok, 2, details on the incident took a startling turn. (1)

Investigations on the head-on collision with a truck led to the discovery of a handwritten note found only 200 meters away from the scene. Additionally, there were no skid marks on the road to imply signs of the vehicle stopping or skidding. Now, the note which is believed to be written by Charmaine has forced the crash to be investigated. (1)

In photos, Charmaine may have seemed to be amongst a happy family. But to social media onlookers, posts by Charmaine included comments about issues in her personal life and relationships. In recent weeks before the crash, McLeod wrote that she felt abandoned by her church during an immense time of need. She felt her family did not receive the support she needed after her marriage came to an end. (1)

With the claims of “personal abandonment” Charmaine shared with social media, was there really more going on that led her to this dark fate? The accused church insists they were dedicated to supporting Charmaine and her family with anything they needed. Though investigations on the incident are ongoing, you can’t help but wonder if Charmaine had been suffering in silence about needing other forms of support. (1)

A Cry For Connection and Compassion

Stories like Charmaine’s are tragic and gut-wrenching. They are a loud reminder that appearances can be deceiving. You may not always recognize when someone is deeply struggling.

We live in a world that is riddled with connectivity and communication. With the click of a button or a tap on our phone, we are instantly and effortlessly catapulted into a world connected to everything and everyone. But it also seems that the more connected we are, the more disconnected we can become. It may seem hard to believe for some, but now more than ever people are feeling isolated and alone.

On the one hand, there are many reasons to love social media. Many people feel more socially connected because of it. But evidence has also shown that social media can also have the reverse effect. Studies have found it’s not only bad for your psychological health but makes people feel lonelier and decrease self-esteem. With so many people using social media as an exchange for in-person socialization, we incur isolation and loneliness. (2)

The death of Charmaine and her four children are just another reminder of how precious life really is. Seeking support and staying connected can be pivotal for mental health. Life is now- and it is a gift. Now more than ever connection and compassion are important to implement in all aspects of our existence. We may never know what someone is enduring- but connection is something we should never take for granted.
