Astringent substances are chemical compounds that shrink or constrict body tissues. The word astringent comes from the Latin adstringere, which means “to bind fast”. Most oils are astringent substances.
To most, using oil to cleanse your face of oil seems strange, but it actually makes sense. The skin’s natural oil, sebum, can become hardened, blocking pores and causing acne, uneven skin, and breakouts. It takes another oil to “bind fast” to these oils and remove them.
Fight Oil With Oil
The oil blend we’re suggesting is a mix of tomato seed oil and blackberry seed oil, which are intense antioxidants and full of vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids essential for clean, clear skin. Castor oil is acts as a carrier oil, but it would remove excess sebum on its own.
With a little geranium and helichrysum essential oils you’ll have a revitalizing mix and anti-aging benefits as well. This oil mask is a great treat for all skin types – it cleans while smoothing, softening, and returning a natural luster and shine.
Blackberry & Tomato Seed Oil Mask
Makes about 2 ounces
Ingredients
40 drops*(20 ml) Castor Oil
40 drops (20 ml) Tomato Seed Oil
40 drops (20 ml) Blackberry Seed Oil
10 drops (0.5 ml) Geranium Essential Oil
10 drops (0.5 ml) Helichrysum Essential Oil (optional)
*40 drops is roughly 1 Tablespoon and 1 teaspoon of oil, or 20ml.
Directions
Combine all the oils and essential oils in a glass bottle that holds at least 2 ounces. Shake well.
Use
Soak a washcloth in hot water, then wring slightly and drape over your face. Allow the steam to warm your skin and open your pores – let the washcloth sit for roughly 30 seconds. Ensure your oil mixture is well shaken, get about one Tablespoon and apply directly to your face. Massage gently into your skin before gently wiping your face clean with the cloth. Repeat as necessary.
When wiping your face, ensure you skin is completely free of your oil serum. Moisturize as needed.
Oil and Trouble
Oil is naturally drawn to other oils. Because the mix you’ve made has so many medical properties, it’s actually very beneficial for your skin, as well as a natural cleanser. You’ll start to notice your face clearing up once you start using this oil cleanser.
The problem most people have with skin care is that they stop once they’ve got their desired results. Skin care is a routine – once you’ve found something that works, you’ve got to keep it up. If you use this oil mask and you find that it works, you’ll likely need to incorporate it into your daily routine. After some time, you can scale back to 3-4 times a week, but you’ll notice that if you miss a day or two you’ll experience breakouts again.
