Why are you feeding your best friend subpar food? Although, you might not immediately think of your dog as your best friend; you’ll be hard pressed to find any human that will love you as much with less or even just as few conditions as your canine comrade. To make sure your friendship lasts as long as possible this article will cover a recipe and some tips that will have dog feeling the puppy love.
Don’t be fooled by the mass media and advertising of the pet food industry (yes there is even big pet food) your dog needs far more than what a few dried pieces of over glorified granola infused with protein can provide. Just like human beings, dogs need a balanced diet, and the base of a balanced diet is simply variety.
It’s About More Than Protein
Now you may have ties genetically to your ancestors but that does not mean you like to dress just like them all the time or laugh like them or eat like them. Over the years the human diet has evolved greatly and surprisingly so has the dogs. A dog is not a wolf (not even the Huskies) this means they need more in their diet than just protein whether it is provided by meat or plants.
Your dog does need some amount of vegetables, vitamins, minerals, and fats in their food that does not come from meats alone. For optimal health, your dog should have a diet that is made up of 50 percent protein, 45 percent fat and 5 percent vegetables.
What to Feed Your Pet
It might seem strange at first, but if you are serious about providing the best care for your pet then instead of buying the pet world’s equivalent of fast food for your dog try making them a nice homemade meal. Now by no means do you have to cook for your dog but by assembling some raw food items you can feed your dog like a king on basic ingredients.
All you will need is 2 lbs of ground meat of your choice, 2-3 eggs and a few chopped vegetables of your choice.
The Recipe
Place the 2 lbs of ground meat into a large mixing bowl and lightly mix until meat is separated evenly and malleable. Next, chop an assortment of vegetables (aim for dark greens or root vegetables) no more than ½ a cup is needed. Add vegetables to ground meat crack two raw eggs into a bowl with meat and vegetables. Mix lightly until meat eggs and vegetables evenly combined.
This recipe should last a small to medium sized dog about 1-2 weeks if portioned properly (about the ½ a cup per meal) this recipe can be stretched by adding canned tuna for extra protein.
Remember a pet is a part of your family; you would never feed your family something that had no real nutritional or health benefits so why do it to your dog. By feeding your dog this national (and cost-effective) recipe you’re sure to have them in your life for many human and dog years to come.
