A 39-Year-Old Coronavirus Patient Who Could Hardly Breathe Posted A Stark Video From The ICU To Warn People Who Think It Won’t Happen To Them

Coronavirus Patient Posts Frank Video

Thirty-nine-year-old coronavirus patient Tara Jane Langston posted a frank video from her ICU bed. She warned others not to take any risks so they wouldn’t end up in the hospital like her. Langston had to pause to cough or gasp for breath several times while filming the video. She showed viewers her breathing tube and the tubes in her arms. “I’m in the intensive care unit and I can’t breathe without this,” Langston said in her video. “They’ve had to sew that into my artery. I’ve got a cannula, another cannula, and a catheter.”

Langston started to feel ill after returning from a trip to Krakow, Poland with her husband, Richard, and their two daughters. Richard told the Daily Mail that the family visited Auschwitz on their trip. There were people from all over the world visiting the concentration camp at the same time. However, Richard said that his wife could have also contracted COVID-19 at the gym. Normally healthy, Langston is an avid gym-goer.

Rushed to the Hospital

Langston felt unwell for about a week before seeing a doctor. She was diagnosed with a chest infection and received a prescription for antibiotics.

“I’d originally been diagnosed with a chest infection and given antibiotics and advised to take ibuprofen and paracetamol,” Langston said in an interview with the Daily Mail. “I was taking about eight ibuprofen a day, and they now think that that exacerbated the problem.”

Her condition continued to worsen throughout the week. An ambulance rushed her to Hillingdon Hospital in London. Doctors diagnosed her with pneumonia but also tested her for the novel coronavirus. Her test results came back positive, and hospital staff moved Langston to the intensive care unit. “When I was taken into intensive care, they originally planned to sedate me and keep me in intubation because my body had gone through it all for the best part of a week, and I was shattered,” Langston told the Daily Mail. “Fortunately, I was kept awake but needed six liters of oxygen. Now that I’m improving, I’m on one liter.”

Warning Younger People About the Virus

In her video, Langston didn’t mince words when warning others to be careful during the COVID-19 crisis. “If anyone is thinking of taking any chances, just take a look at me. Because if it gets really bad, then you’re going to end up here,” she said. She also cautioned smokers against continuing to damage their lungs. “If anyone still smokes, put the cigarettes down because I’m telling you now you need your f***ing lungs,” she said in the video. “And, please, none of you take any chances. I mean it, because if it gets really bad, then you’re going to end up here. My body is fighting this. So once again, don’t take any chances.”

Langston told the Daily Mail that she decided to film the video because she wanted to warn younger people about COVID-19. Although reports indicate that older individuals are more susceptible to the virus, she wants others to understand that younger people can contract it too.

She told the Daily Mail that none of her fellow ICU patients were elderly, one of the most at-risk populations for COVID-19. “There were two other patients with me in the ICU, both of whom were being intubated. One was quite a large man who I’d say was about late 50s or early 60s, and the other was a lady roughly the same age. So these were not elderly people.”

“That was my reasoning behind doing that video was to warn that younger people are susceptible too,” Langston said to the Daily Mail. “It’s quite surreal being in the ICU. The nurses are covered head to toe, but they are literally working non-stop and have been brilliant.”

Coronavirus Patient Recovering

In her interview with the Daily Mail, Langston warned that people “need to self-isolate.” She said that she thought the public was overreacting to the novel coronavirus. But now that she has contracted it, she knows how serious it is. And she never wants to experience anything like it again.

Langston is recovering from her case of COVID-19 and is now out of the intensive care unit. Her husband and daughters eagerly await her return home.
