Two hunters in Leesburg, Central Florida captured a 13-foot crocodile lunching on their kill in the middle of a lake. While they watch from their boat, the alligator effortlessly takes the duck in its massive jaw and swallows it whole. (1)
30-Second Video Of Massive Alligator
Hunters Cass Couey and Kevin Stipe captioned their 30-second video: “It’s not just fishing; Florida duck hunting has a taxman too! Monster alligator eats duck while hunting,” when they posted it to Facebook. (1)
As the men watched the alligator you can hear one of them comment, “Here we go, number two of the day.” Meanwhile fellow ducks don’t seem to take much notice of the scene. You would think they’d at least make some effort to get out of the hungry gator’s path. (1)
Massive Alligator Lies In Wait
It truly does appear massive as it listlessly moves through the water enjoying its meal. You get an idea of what mother nature had in mind when designing this perfect eating machine. It’s eyes allow it to see above water while most of its body remains unnoticed. (1)
Having witnessed the scene one of the men says to the gator, “Ok, you’re fed now. Get out of here.” I guess he didn’t like the alligator helping itself to the ducks they shot. (1)
Thousands Comment On Massive Alligator
The massive alligator had Facebook abuzz with over half a million views and thousands of comments including: (1)
“The dinosaurs are making a comeback.”
“And I thought we used to see some big ones in the Apopka Wildlife Drive!”
“That’s the biggest alligator I’ve ever seen.”
“This is why I’m never going to Florida.”
“It was just another day in the swamp for us,” says Couey. “But I’m glad people are loving it!” (1)
Gator And Croc Attacks
Florida fisherman, Corey Capps killed a 13-foot alligator he claims was “stalking” him for three-years. It spent time in a river near his Blountstown home. After harpooning the alligator Capps says it measured in at over 13-feet long, with its head measuring 16-inches wide. (1)
In other cases, the alligators fared better. On South Carolina’s Kiawah Island, a woman was fatally attacked by an alligator she tried to touch. The 58-year old spotted the gator in a pond in a gated community where the incident occurred. Apparently she had been spotted with a glass of wine in her hand earlier. (1)
In Mexico, a man was pulled underwater and killed by a crocodile when swimming in a lagoon. His attack was not surprising as the incident took place where signs clearly warned people not to swim in the dangerous waters. Onlookers say he tried to get away, swimming towards shore with the crocodile in pursuit. Unfortunately, the crocodile grabbed the man and took him below the water. (1)
Difference Between The Reptiles
The main difference between a croc and a gator is that crocodiles prefer salty water, while alligators are found in fresh water. While they look quite similar, it’s easy to spot a croc as they have a more pointed snout, and a distinct toothy grin. (2)
I think the lesson here is both crocs and gators need a wide berth if you happen to cross their path.
