Healthy Homemade Dog Biscuits: Dog Biscuits Anyone?

Everybody needs a good homemade dog biscuit recipe. That is, if you have a dog. Me, I am a cat person so I referred to my good friend Lynn for the best darn homemade dog biscuit recipe around.

The good news is that by making your own dog biscuits you can ensure that all of the ingredients are healthy and all natural. No preservatives needed! And of course if you feel so inclined you can eat a few yourselves.

Here's a good, basic recipe that can be adapted to any dog's taste:

2 cups unbleached wheat flour
1 cup cornmeal
Pinch of salt
1 egg
3 tablespoons vegetable oil (olive oil isn't recommended because it's strongly flavored)
2 teaspoons chopped fresh parsley
3/4 cup low-sodium chicken broth, organic if possible

1. Preheat the oven to 400 F
2. Mix the flour, cornmeal, and salt in a bowl
3. In a separate, larger bowl, beat the egg with the oil, parsley, and chicken broth. Add the flour mixture until it forms a soft dough.
4. Knead the dough and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters of your choice to make shapes your dog would like.
5. Bake for about 15 minutes or until they're golden brown.

Cool on a wire rack. If you like, sprinkle them with parmesan cheese during the last minute of baking.
